Meditation for 05/16/2019

“That I may declare your praises in the gates of the Daughter of Zion and there rejoice in your salvation.” (Psalm 16:29-34)

Often the Bible defines salvation as joy—both in the Old and New Testaments. Joy is the direct response one has to salvation. God’s joy is greater than the abundance of food and drink. Such joy leads us to spontaneous praise of God.

Christians often talk about their joy in the Lord, but if it is not nourished by His Word and our service to Him, our joy can wane. However, when it is strong, the fear of death has no grip on us, for our focus is on Him and serving Him, and our strength of faith is almost indescribable.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY:

Abba, our salvation comes from You and the actions of Your Son, our Savior on the Cross. It is most humbling and fulfilling, to know how much we are loved by You. When we come to understanding of our true salvation, we are able to fly with eagles and there is nothing that we feel we cannot do. Abba, help us to realize that our joy, our strength, and our faith come from You, and that we are to treasure it forevermore. Amen

THOUGHT OF THE DAY:

Life is like playing tennis, the one who serves the most seldom loses!

KNOWING GOD:

“And the Lord heard Hezekiah and healed the people.” (2nd Chronicles30:20)

Hezekiah noted that the people had fallen out of the covenant with God and were living outside of that covenant. The people were suffering and needed to change their ways. Previous leaders had made decisions that led the people to stop worshiping God or at the very least it was only half-hearted. God’s protection was still available, but they were losing ground of being strong in their faith and resolve to serve and honor God. By calling the people to come to the temple in Jerusalem, Hezekiah was seeking to get the people to once again serve their God. Covenant renewal led to worship renewal; faith seeks to reunite God’s people in celebrating His historical acts of salvation; prayer and trust of God’s leader brings God’s deliverance to vindicate His name, save His people, and honor His leader. If ever there was a time for our country to rededicated our lives and our country to God, we are in that time now. Let us praise Him and dedicate ourselves to the One who created this world and all that is in it. Pray to Him to restore the joy in our hearts and let us return to true worship.

I AM:

Salvation, Definition: (Isaiah 45:8)

Salvation and righteousness are inseparable. Salvation is God’s desired status for people. Righteousness is the proper social order of the world. The heavens and earth participate in God’s salvation. Israel’s restoration from the Exile was the beginning of the consummation of all history.

Second Thought of the Day:

“If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in my Father’s glory with the holy angels.” (Mark8:38)

God’s salvation is glorification. It has to do with the final blessed and abiding state of the redeemed. Future blessedness for those saved is related to their present faithfulness to Jesus Christ.

The association of the holy angels with Jesus at His coming suggests the final judgment. To be ashamed of Jesus and His words now will have serious consequences then. At the time of judgment, the Son of man will be ashamed of such a one. The very thought of it compels fidelity to Him and glade confession of Him.
