Meditation for 06/03/2019
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man. You, however, are controlled not by sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.” (Romans 8:1-3, 9-10)
“In Christ” is a favorite phrase of Paul’s to describe the multifaceted meaning of salvation. Those in Christ are set free from condemnation caused by sin. Life is life in the Spirit rather than life in the old sinful nature dominated by physical desires.
We must still face physical death because of our sin, but we can count on resurrection, and eternal life because God has made us right o justified (Greek – dikalosune’).
PRAYER FOR THE DAY:
Abba, one immutable truth is that one day, we will all die a physical death. For those who have accepted God through Christ Jesus, we depend upon resurrection and eternal life, because You have already provided this for us. Do we still sin, yes, but if we come with a penitent heart, You in Your grace and mercy will forgive us, and we will spend eternity with You, Christ, and our loved ones who have gone before us. For this, Abba, we love You and depend upon You to provide this for us and we ask in Jesus precious name, to claim this right you have provided. Amen
THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
“Friends multiply joy and divide sorry.”
“For in him you have been enriched in every way—-in all your speaking and in all your knowledge. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.” (1st Corinthians 1:5, 30)
Those who are in Christ find Him o be their all in all, their everything. Every aspect of life is changed for those in Christ Jesus. Christ became our redemption. He paid the penalty for our sins on the cross and released us from our slavery o sin. In Christ we are accounted righteous by God, just as if we had never sinned. Wee are viewed as holy just as God is holy. These words describe our present state, in Christ.
Salvation, As Being in Christ: (Ephesians1:1, 5, 13)
Those in Christ are saints. They are God’s children through their adoption in Christ. All who hear and believe the gospel are included in Christ’s people. The Holy Spirit in us marks us as being in Christ.
Second Thought of the Day:
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” (John4:10)
This is, of course, the encounter Jesus had with the Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus asked her for a drink of water and she said, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.
Believers live in Christ much like fish live in water. He is our natural element—-the Water of life. Salvation means being “in Christ,” asking Him for life, and living out the life available only in Him.
