Meditation

Who is it you have insulted and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy God of Israel! By your messengers you have heaped insults on the Lord. And you said, ‘With my many chariots I have ascended the heights of the mountains, the upmost heights of Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars, the choices of its pines. I have reached its remotest parts, the finest of its forests.’ (2nd Kings19:22-23)

Prayer, prophecy, and God’s power brought deliverance from a situation human strategists would call impossible. God delivered His people to show all te nations His power as the only God. Assyria thought they were more powerful than all enemy gods. They did not realize they had not faced a God until they faced Israel.

Using Sennacherib as an example, Isaiah articulated God’s opinion against language which indicated a prideful spirit. Though we throw insults at other people, our attitude is ultimately one which insults God. God hates those attitudes of deceit and greediness which our language expresses as we ridicule and condemn others.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY:

Precious Abba, You taught Your people a lesson on the sin of pride and You sent a message to Your enemy Sennacherib a stronger message that You are much more powerful than he could ever imagine. Pride is a sin, and one that can take us to dark places. Help us, Abba, to always include You in our prayers, our study of Your Word and to recognize that Your power is greater than we ever could be without You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

THOUGHT OF THE DAY:

Are you too busy acting like a Christian to be one?

KNOWING GOD:

“’They make ready their tongue like a bow, to shoot lies; it is not by truth that they triumph in the land. They go form one sin to another; they do not acknowledge me,’ declares the Lord. ‘Beware of your friends; do not trust your brothers. For every brotheer is a deceiver, and every friend a slanderer. Friend deceives friend, and no noe speaks the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie; that weary themselves with sinning. You live in the modst of deception; in their deceit they refuse to acknowledge me,’ declares the Lord. Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘See, I will refine and test them, for what else can I do because of he sin of my people? Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks with deceit. With his mouth each speaks cordially to his neighbor, but in his heart he sets a trap for him.’” (Jeremiah9:38)

Can one win by deceit? Of course, but it will finally be brought to judgment because lying reflects broken relationships with God and other people. Society is the loser when lying, deceit, mistrust, slander, and enmity rule its tongues.

None of this is intended to speak out against a political party or parties. Neither is it directed towards a particular group of people. It is instead directed directly to only those who lie to another, continually, or anytime their mouth is open. It is directed to those who make a conscious decision to cause others to be harmed or deceived by words that are untrue. What’s worse is, that they have no regret for lying, but instead, use this sin to further their own worth or livelyhood; thus revealing they have no relationship with God, nor intend to develop one. There is no confession of sin, as it has become a “tool of the trade.” For them, I pray they will recognize their mistake and repent of their sin.

I AM:

They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him, and cursed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, but they refused to repent of what they had done.” (Revelation16:9, 11)

Chapter 16 sets forth the wrath of God in vivid, dramatic fashion. The sovereign power of God is revealed punishing the evil forces of this world. God is clearly in control. Christians who may wonder at times can take courage from the picture of God’s vengeance upon evil. Evil is an ugly reality in our world. One day God will surprise all forces of evil and destroy them. Until them we must continue to proclaim the Gospel message an wait expectantly for Him to come. In the meantime the end time tribulations will lead many to blasphemy rather than repentance. When the seven bowls begin to be poured, the tribulations will be triggered.

SECOND THOUGHT of the DAY:

Again, you have heard that it was said o the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord’ But I tell you, Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is His footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your hear, for you cannot make even one hair white or black.” (Matthew5:3336)

As Christians, we should exhibit such integrity of character that we do not have to make any kind of vow indicating out truthfulness. People should be able to take every word we speak at face value. Beloved, I pray you understand this with clarity.
