“I will set a sign among them, and I will set a sign among them, and I will send some of those who survive to the nations—-to Tarshish, to the Libyans and Lydians (famous archers), to Tubal and Greece, and t the distant islands that have not heard of my fame or seen my glory. They will proclaim my glory among the nations. And they will bring all your brothers, from all the nations, to my holy mountain in Jerusalem as an offering to the Lord—-on horses, in chariots an wagons, and on mules and camels, says the Lord. ‘They will bring them, as the Israelites bring their grain offerings, to the temple of the Lord in ceremonially clean vessels. And I will select some of them also to be priests and Levites.’ says the Lord. ‘As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me,’ declares the Lord, ‘so will your name and descendants endure. From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me,’ says the Lord.” (Isaiah 66:19-23 – Sending Messengers is God’s Work)
God’s eternal purpose has been to send His people to bless the nations (Genesis 12:1-3) and to introduce the nations to Him. He finally used judgment to disperse His people away from their homeland to be signs among the nations of His power and glory. Missionaries who, voluntarily leave their homeland to share God’s message among the nations continue to fulfill God’s intention that “all mankind will come and bow down before me.”
PRAYER FOR THE DAY:
Precious Abba, You have had a plan all along, and it was at this time, that it was to be put into action; sending your messengers out to deliver the message of salvation and forgiveness to all that would come and accept You and bow down to You in reverence and obedience. This is the plan that You would select the messengers and send them forth. Guide our paths, O Lord, that we might stay on the straight and narrow path, to reach out to all nations with Your message and invite them to join in the growth of Your kingdom and give all the opportunity to accept You into their hearts and minds. Today we continue to pray troops serving in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, that a peaceful solution might be found and let the fighting be silenced. We also pray for those who are suffering in body, mind, and/or spirit, with friends, family, and for those we don’t know. Amen
THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
“It is better to die to self, than to live for nothing.”
“While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off. The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus. When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. John was with them as their helper.” (Acts 13:2-5 – Early Churches are the Example of Missions)
Antioch is the first church in recorded history to send out foreign missionaries. The church provides a model for missionary sending churches: 1)God reveals His will to a church that seeks His face in worship, prayer, and fasting; 2) the Holy Spirit speaks to the group sending the missionary, as well as to the as to the individual called; 3) the Spirit calls individuals to a mission task; 4) the selection of the missionary by a church, or a board is an awesome responsibility and requires personal dedication and prater for God’s guidance; and 5) sending missionaries calls for support by the home church. Two expressions described this enabling process of he church in Antioch—-the laying on of hands and the sending on the say. The terms expressed the blessing, the support, and the encouragement for missionaries.
“For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, ‘Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.’ For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—-the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of he Lord will be saved.’ How, then, can they call on the one thy have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not hear? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’” (Romans 10:10-15 – Human means are Essential to Effective Missions)
This great salvation passage is also a key missions passage. Salvation comes through Christ to the believer regardless of race, status, or nationality. Verses 12-13 reveal the need and the right of everyone to hear the good news. The lost cannot hear the message without someone to share it. Missionaries cannot go unless they are sent. The people of God, have the joy and the responsibility to sent them. Sending others as missionaries is no substitute for our own witness responsibility. We are to go and share Christ as far as we can. Then we are to join hands with other Christians. Then we are to join hands with other Christians in order that Christ’s message might reach to the ends of he earth.
2ND THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
“After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.” (Revelation 7:9 – Missions Yield Historical and Eternal Results)
This wonderful apocalyptic vision of worshipers before the throne of God gives us a deep abiding sense of gratitude and praise. Although the worshipers are from every nation, tribe, language, and people, they are not wearing the typical clothes of he various lands. Their white robes identify them as belonging to God. God desires that man and, women, and children from every nation belong to Him. But the contemporary churches must be faithful to the missionary vision for God’s plan to be fully carried out.
The gospel is for all. He is the consummation of the grand truth that all peoples can taste of salvation through Jesus Chris. He died and rose again fro all. He will clothe all who come to Him in repentance and faith with the white robe of righteousness and they will be given the palm branch of eternal peace and rest. Tell all people that, for that is our evangelistic responsibility.
