Gideon said to God, ‘If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised—-look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.’ And that is what happened. Gideon rose early the next day; he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—-a bowlful of water. Then Gideon said to God, ‘Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me just one more test with the fleece. This time make the fleece dry and the ground covered with dew. That night God did so. Only the fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew.” (Judges 6:36-40 – God Takes the Initiative Through Signs)

God uses signs in the material world to bolster His people’s faith (Exodus 4:1-9). Such signs joined to prayerful conversation with God reveal God’s power and presence with His people. For Gideon the signs also signified divine patience with a young believer facing an awesome task.

Precious Abba, You allowed Gideon to be a little playful with You, by asking first that the fleece was wet and the ground was dry, that You would save Your people. The next day he asked that only the fleece was wet and the ground dry. You responded to him as he asked; thus, his faith was strengthened in answer to both signs. Today we continue to pray our troops serving in faraway lands and those in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, that a peaceful solution might be found and let the fighting be silenced. We also pray for those who are suffering in body, mind, and/or spirit, with friends, family, and for those we don’t know. Amen

There is no such thing as a self-made Christian. We are asked to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, on faith. This and only this makes us a Christian.”

While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines might drink might drink from them, his wives and his concubines drank from them. As they drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone. Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote.” (Daniel 5:2-5 – God Takes the Initiative Through Signs)

God interrupted Belshazzar’s blasphemous party with a written message. God uses His own mysterious ways to communicated His will. God’s Spirit gave Daniel wisdom to read and interpret the writing. Such revelation came to overcome human pride and reveals God’s sovereignty.

This is the inscription that was written: ‘Mene’ Mene’ ‘Tekel’ ‘Persin.’ This is what the words mean: ” (Daniel 5:25-28 – God Takes the Initiative Through Signs)” Mene – God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end; Tekel – You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting; Peres (Persin) Your kingdom is divided and given to the medes and Persians.

The translation of the four written words is a revelation of God’s purposes in the immediate history of Belshazzar and nations where him. God used Daniel to reveal God’s will to the king. The message involved word game to first confuse, then give meaning to this king.

How can we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.” (Hebrews 2:3-4– God Takes the Initiative Through Signs)”

Rejection of so many revelations leads to inevitable rejection of the way of salvation. God has revealed His fantastic love and saving plan though Christ. He has also manifested Himself in sighs, wondrous events, and miraculous activities. Now He expresses Himself in a present Spirit who provides special gifts in keeping with God’s will. He has used every means possible to convince people to trust Him and nothing else for salvation. What more do you need to believe, to trust, to accept Him?
