Meditation

So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.” (Galatians 5:16)

Two alternatives face you. You may follow God’s Holy Spirit or self-centered desires. The Holy Spirit makes it possible for Christians to overcome our lower nature and serve God according to His will. The other alternative; well, it does none of this and will lead us away from God’s will.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY:

Precious Abba, You gave us the Holy Spirit to give us guidance in our lives, always seeking to serve You. It is our desire, that we serve You through Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit in all things. Let our worship then flow out of grateful hearts. This we pray. Amen

THOUGHT OF THE DAY:

Going to church does not make you a Christian anymore than going to McDonald’s makes you a hamburger. Going to church is to worship our Lord and praise Him.”

KNOWING GOD:

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” (1st Corinthians 6:19-20)

God lives in you. Is He comfortable there, or do your actions cause Him problems? The body of the Christian disciple is the temple of God—the dwelling place of God. God bought and paid for you on the cross. You belong to God. You, the disciple, must serve he God who purchased and indwells you. You have a heavy responsibility to keep your body as the temple of God, fit for His dwelling.

I AM:

The Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know. But you know him, for you and will be in you. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I m in you.” (John 14:17, 20)

When we commit ourselves to God in Christ by faith, God enters into our heart in the person of the Holy Spirit and transforms our nature and disposition. We become new creatures in Christ . The Spirit makes such a radical change in us that our whole personality is set on doing the will of God. The Spirit’s daily leadership is the defining characteristic of every disciple.

SECOND THOUGHT OF THE DAY:

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.” (John 16:13-14)

As Christian disciples, we do not know everything we need to know to follow Christ. God knows. He gives us the knowledge we need, when we need it through the Holy Spirit. By the ministry of the Holy Spirit Jesus exercises His lordship over His disciples. Without the daily experience of the Spirit we cannot be disciples.
